Hey fellas. Happy Veteran's day. Certainly has been a long five years since I wrote my scathing recap of "A Double Dilemma," but I am glad that I have been able to use this outlet since then.
Just as well, since the 1,000th episode of Pokémon aired yesterday in Japan, "Lillie and Silvally: The Resurrected Memory." I won't be recapping the episode for now, or spoiling too much about it; but I will give my thoughts on the episode as well as the series briefly before I work on posting my recap of the Diancie movie (which I thankfully do have written, and shouldn't take much longer to get out).
While the story may not be a conventional way to approach a milestone like this, it does start out a bit slow in the first half. However, once Nebby teleports Ash and Lillie away from the rest of the side characters; things do start to get interesting. Even though this Japanese comic voices Faba's Hypno in the episode, the second half of the episode is significantly lighter on humor due to the subject matter. The animation is also quite impressive, especially when Type: Null evolves into Silvally to fight Faba and his Pokémon. There are several changes from the games, but they are effective for the story at least. It may not be my favorite episode of Sun and Moon so far, but it's on the list.
Moreover, while I understand how some people feel about the series as of late; I submit the fact that the series has lasted this long is a testament to how it still commands a sizable fanbase after all these years. While very few people I've talked to have had the same two takeaways of post-Original series stories, I guarantee that no series gets to a milestone like this if absolutely no one likes it.
With this on the table, and one week remaining to the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon; I will work on my recaps of the XY series Pokémon films before the I Choose You movie airs on Disney XD on the 25th. I'm also going to see Thor Ragnarok soon, you should hopefully see my look at the Diancie movie not long after that. That will be all for now. See you, space cowboy.
